Imitation Silk Patterned Rice Paper for light Gongbi painting

Create Chinese calligraphy and paintings on a paper surface with the look of traditional silk. This imitation silk patterned rice paper has a bark-paper base embossed with a silk-like texture and decorated with subtle gold patterns. It is paper, not woven silk or sized mulberry-silk painting fabric.

An antique-style backdrop for brushwork

The tinted background and understated gold decoration give calligraphy and painted compositions an antique-scroll feel. Unroll and cut the 35 cm × 20 m sheet to the length you need for small studies or extended handscroll compositions.

Fully sized paper for controlled brushwork

The fully sized styles are treated with glue and alum to resist ink feathering and spreading. Use Chinese ink and Chinese painting colours, including Marie's Chinese painting colours, directly on the paper for calligraphy, small-scale xieyi painting, light-colour gongbi practice, antique-style studies and decorative Chinese paintings. They also suit studies after traditional paintings.

One available style is labelled semi-sized rather than fully sized. Its ink response differs from the fully sized styles; choose the finish to suit your technique and test on an offcut before starting.
